KeySteps

Part of Changing Lives Charity

Unlocking housing opportunities

KeySteps is dedicated to helping homeless or at risk individuals in North Somerset secure housing in the private rental sector.

How it works

By providing landlords with deposit bonds instead of traditional cash deposits, KeySteps enables vulnerable tenants to access safe and stable homes.

Here’s how KeySteps can help

For tenants

Our experienced team assist with navigating the process of housing benefit applications and related paperwork. We provide practical guidance on obtaining essential household items and how to arrange necessary property repairs. We connect individuals with valuable external support services like debt management and training grant opportunities.

For landlords

As well as offering deposit bonds, we source pre-referenced tenants to fill vacancies quickly and without advertising costs.

Ongoing support

KeySteps offers telephone support during working hours for any queries or concerns, acting as a point of contact for both parties. We provide support throughout the tenancy, including mediation for any issues or disputes.

Community focused

As members of local housing forums, we stay informed about relevant regulations and provide knowledgeable assistance to both landlords and tenants.

To date, KeySteps has helped approximately 3,000 people to obtain housing, with around 80 bonds still in place across North Somerset.

KeySteps operates as a working name of Changing Lives Charity, strengthening their combined efforts to combat homelessness. KeySteps will continue fostering relationships with local landlords, while its established tenant support seamlessly integrates with Changing Lives Charity's Volunteer+ programme. This collaboration, bolstered by ongoing fundraising, will significantly enhance their ability to deliver sustainable services and move more people away from homelessness in the future.
