Pop down to the Pop-Up (or Thrift Shop as we now call it!)

Julie has been a valuable member of our volunteer team at Changing Lives for a number of years now, helping out in the warehouse and on house clearances, but when we started looking to appoint  someone to a part-time role managing the Thrift Shop, we were delighted that Julie stepped into the breach. Since January, she has worked her magic to breathe new life into a retail space that is treasured by so many in the local community.

Here, in her own words, is what Julie has to say about her new role and life in the Thrift Shop...

"Since stepping into the role of Store Manager back in January (my first retail experience!), I’ve had the pleasure of seeing the Thrift shop thrive, and what stands out more than anything is the incredible community that brings it to life every single day.

Our volunteers are, quite simply, the heart of the shop. They give their time, energy, and kindness so generously, whether they’re sorting donations, chatting with customers, or keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes. Each person brings something unique, and together they’ve created a warm, welcoming space that truly reflects the spirit of Changing Lives.

I also want to give a huge thank you to our amazing customers. Their continued support—through donations, purchases, and friendly conversations—makes such a difference. Every item they bring in or take home helps us keep going and supports the charity we’re so passionate about.

What I’ve loved most over these past months is seeing the connections formed here. It’s more than just a shop—it’s a place where people come together, share stories, and support one another. That sense of community is something really special, and I feel incredibly lucky to be part of it.

As we look ahead, I’m excited for what we can achieve together. With such a fantastic team of volunteers and loyal customers behind us, the future feels bright.

Thank you all for making this shop what it is."

Julie
