We’re forever grateful for the team of volunteers who make our transformational work within the local communities possible. From sorters and pricers to till operators and drivers, we’re always looking for more superstars to join us on our mission.

So, whether you want to give something back to the local community, learn new skills or simply want to be part of something amazing we would love to hear from you.

Below are a few of the roles which help us deliver our mission. If they sound like something you would like to get involved in, we would love to hear from you. Simply let us know using the form below.

Function tester

White goods that are donated to Changing Lives have to be tested to make sure they are in working order. This involves testing the item to check it is functioning correctly eg. A washing machine has to run  through a whole cycle, fridges and freezers have to reach and maintain the correct temperature. The function testers role is to test each item with the appropriate test and keep careful records.

Warehouse worker

A varied role, performing any tasks that are needed at the warehouse, including moving furniture displays, helping to load and unload vans, cleaning, serving customers and answering phones.

Driver’s mate

Helping the drivers with deliveries and collections at customer’s homes. This role requires physically fit individuals with an understanding of manual handling principles (though training will be given).

Furniture repairing and upcycling

Many of the items that are donated to Changing Lives need a bit of care and attention to make them saleable. This requires some expertise in DIY skills such as carpentry for repairs, and painting skills.

Administration

Help is needed in the office with administration tasks. This role requires knowledge of IT systems, particularly Word and Excel, and an ability to use the internet.

Volunteer Plus Programme

These will either need to be disposed of, or brought back into use by repairing, cleaning etc. This role involves checking and sorting items for disposal or re-use. Physical fitness is requirement for this role as it is sometimes necessary to break up items togo into the waste skip.

The House Clearance service that Changing Lives provides is very popular. This is a similar role to the Drivers Mate position though there will be a need to remove rubbish and boxes of Bric-a-brac, books etc. at some clearance jobs.

Charity Shop Assistant

This role can include many tasks such as replenishing shelves, dusting bric-a-brac, serving customers and office admin tasks.
